We always focus first and foremost on your dental health. You would be surprised how many problems start in the mouth or jaw and how important your dental health is to your general well-being. Using an intra-oral camera and digital x-rays, we can show you what is going on inside your mouth and, if you need treatment, talk you through the different options.
We will also provide you with a treatment plan.

Did you know that it’s an established scientific fact that muscles used to smile release substances into your body that make you feel better? We can help you smile with confidence.

We provide a wide range of dental services at Orpington Dental Care – read about some of them here, first the preventive and restorative treatments to help keep your teeth strong and fit to last a lifetime and then cosmetic treatments to look after your smile and face. Prices can be found here.

Restorative treatments

Fillings – we offer a choice of filling materials, usually recommending a composite resin material because it is tooth coloured, making the repair to your tooth invisible.
Inlays and onlays – these are made to cover the surface of a tooth once it has had a filling. An inlay covers the central area while an onlay will cover the entire crown of the tooth. They can be made of tooth-coloured resin, porcelain or gold alloy and are cemented into position.
Crowns – these add strength to a tooth which is cracked or decayed. The crown, often known as a cap, is  tailor-made so it to fits perfectly over the entire tooth.
Bridges – the traditional way to replace a missing tooth or teeth. One or more replacement teeth are attached to crowns. The crowns are fixed onto the teeth to either side of the  space which is being filled. Patients can also choose a dental implant, where a crown is fitted into a post  which is fixed into the jaw.
Dentures – a removable solution for missing teeth. There are two types of denture. Chrome cobalt dentures are made of metal and have clasps for better retention. This type is most suitable for a partial denture. The other type is made of acrylic and is used for full dentures.
Root canal treatment – a skilled and precise procedure which involves removing the infected pulp from the centre of the tooth and replacing it with a synthetic material. Root canal treatments help  the tooth stay in place but afterwards it is likely to require a crown to strengthen it.

Preventive treatments

Hygiene services – delivered by our hygienist who is trained to provide educational and clinical care. Gum Disease [also known as Periodontitis] is preventable. Your hygienist will help you to acquire the necessary skills to maintain your oral health effectively. She can help you to identify where you have difficulty in removing plaque and then work with you to modify your tooth brushing technique to ensure effective cleaning. The hygienist can also give you advice on diet and help you to prevent or deal with bad breath. Plaque and some types of staining are removed using hand scalers or ultrasonic scalers. The hygienist may also apply fluoride directly to the teeth and fissure sealants, particularly on children's teeth, to help prevent tooth decay.
Treatment to stop snoring – if  snoring is a problem, Johan can make an appliance to be worn at night. It looks a bit like a mouthguard and is made to fit over your teeth. The appliance helps bring the lower jaw forward, keeping the airway unblocked, reducing snoring.

Cosmetic treatments

Tooth-whitening – We provide a supervised power tooth bleaching procedure while you are in the chair so it all happens quickly and effectively. If you are having a course of treatment, we recommend you start with the whitening so any veneers or crowns can be matched to your new whiter shade.
Mini implants for dentures– if you want your denture to feel more stable in your mouth, a mini dental implant may be the solution for you. Implants are posts made of titanium, which are placed in the jaw to act as an anchor for the denture. To find out more, go to http://www.mymdistory.com or come in and talk to Johan.
Veneers - very thin pieces of specially-shaped porcelain or plastic that are bonded onto your teeth to straighten your smile or improve the shape of your teeth. They can be used to conceal teeth that are severely discoloured, chipped, pitted or misshapen or to close gaps.
Wrinkle removal  - an option for patients who want to ageing lines removed by a qualified professional in a safe and sterilised setting. You would be surprised how many of our patients are asking for Botox.

Services for anxious patients We have available the services of a qualified medical doctor and anaesthetist to provide Intravenous Sedation for nervous patients. The drug used for sedation has three main effects: to promote a feeling of calm within the patient; to reduce patient awareness of treatment, to provide a powerful amnesia so that the patient remembers very little of the procedure. Whilst the effects are variable, most people enter a state that allows treatment to be performed without undue anxiety.

We also provide Relative Analgesia, sometimes known as Laughing Gas, and will sometimes combine it with Hypnosis to help patients to be more relaxed. We have excellent results with especially children and find that our children patients might even enjoy visiting the Dentist.
